Best Practices to Prepare Lance Travel Trailers for 2023 Excursions
It will be time to hit the open road again soon, and now is a great time for Lance travel trailers to be inspected and prepared for the active RV season. To get you started on that, here are some key areas that need attention at the beginning of every travel season.
Inspect the Roof
The most vulnerable time for the roof of an RV is when it is stored for a long period of time. LaLance travel trailersce travel trailers are built with puncture-resistant materials, but any nearby trees have the potential to cause damage. And even when no damage occurs, leaves and other debris collecting on the roof may cause problems. If damage is found, repair it immediately because delaying the repair may lead to interior decay and even more extensive renovations.
Tire Condition and Pressure
Checking the tires of your Lance camper is a 3-part procedure. The first thing to do is to check the air pressure. It is not unusual for tires to leak down somewhat when they are sitting in one place, so be prepared to add a little air. Next, inspect the sidewalls carefully for tiny cracks that indicate the tire is losing its integrity. Finally, insert a new penny into the tread of the tires head first. The outer edge of the tread should extend past the top of Lincoln's head, and the more of the coin's edge that is visible, the more important it is to install new tires.
Appliance Check
Verify all of your interior appliances and electronics. If you find a problem, take your travel trailer to a Lance dealer and have it serviced as soon as possible. Small problems can escalate into major failures, so try to stay on top of repairs for as long as you own your Lance. Make sure that all of your devices work, and test your inverter and solar system if you have them installed. You want everything to work properly when you arrive at a destination, so make sure it will do so before you leave.
Tow Vehicle Tuneup
Whether you have a travel trailer or a Lance truck camper, the vehicle that moves your RV needs to be properly maintained. Checking and changing the fluids will keep your vehicle in good shape, but remember to maintain the brakes, change the filters, and top off the coolant and transmission fluids too. Nothing can ruin an off-grid excursion like preventable engine failure popping up its ugly head.
Exterior Lights
Once you've checked the interior, hook up the trailer lights and make sure all of the exterior lights are in good working order as well. This includes checking the awning lights and other personal use lights as well as the tail, turn, and reverse lights on your trailer. While you are at it, go ahead and apply a bit of dielectric grease to the wiring connectors to prevent corrosion and promote a good electrical circuit.
The more care you take with preparing your travel trailer for adventure, the more enjoyable every excursion will be. The checklist presented here covers the bare essentials, but more extensive checklists are available that cover everything up to and including packing the gear you need for different types of trips.
